South American nations joined forces in tourism

Tourism representatives from the member countries of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) agreed in Quito to create the South American Conference of Tourism.

The agency shall coordinate strategies within the UNASUR to create projects and take actions on regional tourism, and will consist of ministers and tourist authorities, who will meet once a year to review the progresses.

Ecuador welcomed the ministers and other officials of the so-called leisure industry to discuss the promotion of sustainable tourism, funding mechanisms and the creation of a regional network.

They also talked about the creation of South American routes, mapping and statistical systems, air connectivity, and the foundation of the annual conference of ministers and markets.

Participants in the event agreed to hold the next meeting in Cartagena, Colombia.

Other issues included the confirmation of hotel services, participation and international presence, and a meeting of South American and Arabian tourism ministers.

Discussions mainly focused on governance, development, management of demand and supply, connectivity and communication.
